The term cingulate region, or Regio cingularis, refers to a cytoarchitecturally defined portion of the cerebral cortex that occupies much of the medial surface of the hemisphere surrounding the corpus callosum. It is composed of the ventral posterior cingulate area 23, the dorsal posterior cingulate area 31, the ventral anterior cingulate area 24, the subgenual area 25, the pregenual area 33 (H), the dorsal anterior cingulate area 32 and the prelimbic area 32 (M). |
