auditory radiation
Acronym:
The term auditory radiation refers to a fiber pathway in the sublenticular part of internal capsule (posterior limb) and other parts of the cerebral white matter. It connects the medial geniculate body with the transverse temporal gyrus of the cerebral cortex ( Carpenter-1983 ). It is not readily distinguished in myelin-stained histological cross-sections. Some authors consider it synonymous with, or a part of, the inferior thalamic radiations. For a detailed discussion of semantic differences in the use of terms relating to the thalamic peduncles and thalamocortical radiations see Anthoney-1994.
