medial pretectal nucleus

The term medial pretectal nucleus refers to a group of cells near the dorsal surface of the tectum of the midbrain between the superior colliculus and the epithalamus of the rat ( Swanson-1998 ) and the mouse ( Paxinos-2001 ). Functionally it belongs to the reticular formation (functional) of the brainstem motor system ( Swanson-2004 ).
