C3 cell group (C3)

The term C3 cell group refers to a group of cells that label for PNMT, the enzyme that converts norepinephrine to epinephrine (adrenalin); thus, they are regarded as 'putative adrenergic cells'. They are found in the dorsal midline of the rostral medulla in conjunction with the noradrenergic group A3. Seen in rodents, group C3 is not detectable in most other species, including primates ( Kitahama-1994 ).

Also known as: C3 adrenaline cells, adrenergic group C3, C3 cell group

Models Where It Appears
Monoamine Cell Groups

are collections of neurons in the central nervous system that have been demonstrated by histochemical fluorescence to contain one of the neurotransmitters serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine ( Fuxe-1970 ) or epinephrine ( Kitahama-1994 ). They are classified respectively as serotonergic cell groups, dopaminergic cell groups, noradrenergic cell groups and adrenergic cell groups.
