auditory association cortex

The term auditory association cortex refers to a portion of the temporal lobe located adjacent to the primary auditory area and variously defined on the basis of cytoarchitecture, myeloarchitecture, connectivity and function. It occupies primarily the superior temporal gyrus where it is roughly comparable to the area 22 of Brodmann (human) ( Zilles-1990 ).

Also known as: auditory association cortex, magnopyramidal temporal belt, magnopyramidal temporal field, magnopyramidal region of Braak, temporoparietal area, Tpt of Galaburda, auditory parasensory association cortex, perisylvian language area
