A11 cell group (A11)

The term A11 cell group refers to a small group of cells fluorescent for dopamine that are located in the posterior periventricular nucleus and the intermediate periventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus in the macaque ( Felten-1983 ). In the rat, small numbers of cells assigned to this group are also found in the posterior hypothalamic area, the supramammillary area and the reuniens nucleus ( Dahlstrom-1964 ).

are collections of neurons in the central nervous system that have been demonstrated by histochemical fluorescence to contain one of the neurotransmitters serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine ( Fuxe-1970 ) or epinephrine ( Kitahama-1994 ). They are classified respectively as serotonergic cell groups, dopaminergic cell groups, noradrenergic cell groups and adrenergic cell groups.
