A16 cell group (A16)

The term A16 cell group refers to a group of cells fluorescent for dopamine located in the olfactory bulb of vertebrates, including the human, macaque, rat and mouse ( Smeets-1994 ). Functionally it is part of the olfactory system, which mediates the sense of smell and may contribute to the evaluation of smells a positive or negative ( Bowden-2021 ) Updated 8 Jun 2024.

are collections of neurons in the central nervous system that have been demonstrated by histochemical fluorescence to contain one of the neurotransmitters serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine ( Fuxe-1970 ) or epinephrine ( Kitahama-1994 ). They are classified respectively as serotonergic cell groups, dopaminergic cell groups, noradrenergic cell groups and adrenergic cell groups.
