paravermal zone of the cerebellum

The term paravermal zone of the cerebellum refers to a subdivision of the cerebellum based on connectivity. It includes the globose nucleus, the emboliform nucleus and medial portions of the anterior lobe of the cerebellum and posterior lobe of the cerebellum with which they exchange projections ( Carpenter-1983 ). Some authors use the term and its synonyms to refer only to the paravermal cortex, the cortical component of the circuit. See Anthoney-1994 for a discussion of differences in the use of this term.
