subcallosal fasciculus

The term subcallosal fasciculus refers to a fiber pathway in the cerebral white matter at the junction of the corpus callosum, the lateral ventricle and the caudate nucleus. It contains connections between the occipital lobe and the frontal lobe ( Crosby-1962 ) and between areas of the cerebral cortex and the striatum ( Carpenter-1983 ). It is not readily distinguished in myelin-stained cross-sections.

Also known as: Stratum subcallosum, subcallosal fasciculus, Fasciculus subcallosus, superior occipitofrontal fasciculus, superior occipito-frontal fascicle, superior fronto-occipital fasciculus, superior fronto-occipital bundle, Fasciculus occipitofrontalis superior, Fasciculus occipito-frontalis superior, subcallosal bundle
