frontoparietal operculum (OPRfp)

The term frontoparietal operculum (OPRfp) refers to the parts of the ventrolateral frontal lobe (FLB) and parietal lobe (PLB) that overlie the dorsal surface of the insula (INS) in the human ( Ture-1999 ) and the macaque ( Mesulam-1985). Identified by dissection, it includes the superior bank of the lateral fissure (ltf) and is separated from the INS by the superior limiting sulcus (slms). It is composed of the frontal operculum (OPRfr), the subcentral operculum (OPRsc) and the parietal operculum (OPRpr). It is not present in the smooth cerebral cortex (CTX) of the rat and mouse ( NeuroNames ). Updated 28 Aug 2024.
