The term large lateral hypothalamic neurons refers to a group of neurons identified by Nissl stain; they are located primarily in the lateral hypothalamic area, but also in adjacent parts of medial nuclei of the hypothalamus, the posterior hypothalamic region and the fields of Forel. They appear in both human and rat; they are more prominent in the human and more differentiated into subgroups in the rat ( Saper-2004 ).
