thalamocortical systems

The term thalamocortical systems refers to the reciprocal pathways, or 'loops', of neuronal fibers that run in the thalamocortical radiations to interconnect specific nuclei of the thalamus with specific areas of neocortex. Some involve connections through nuclei of the basal ganglia. In mammals they constitute the major part of the brain. ( Scholarpedia ).
