dorsal zone of the juxtaventromedial region

The term dorsal zone of the juxtaventromedial region refers to one of two zones of the juxtaventromedial region in the rat. The other is the ventral zone of the juxtaventromedial region. Defined on the basis of cytoarchitecture and connections, it is a group of loosely packed neurons that receive input from the basolateral amygdalar nucleus. They are located lateral to the ventromedial nucleus of the hypothalamus. Functionally the cell groups belong to the motor lateral hypothalamus of the brainstem motor system ( Swanson-2004 ).
