The term dysgranular cortex refers to a cytoarchitecturally defined type of neocortex intermediate in structure between granular cortex and Agranular cortex. The granular cortex has two layers of granule cells, an external granular layer (II) and an internal granular layer (IV). Dysgranular cortex has fewer granule cells, which are grouped in a single layer or as distinct clusters. Agranular cortex has no granule cells ( Mesulam-1982 ).
