area V8 (V8)

The term area V8 refers to a cortical structure located at the junction of the occipital lobe and temporal lobe on the inferior surface of the cerebral hemisphere of the human. Defined by multiple criteria, it is a part of the ventral stream visual cortex. It is distinguished from surrounding areas by thick myelination and visuotopic signs. Other authors have referred to the same topological area as VO1 ( Glasser-2016 ).
