The term early visual cortex refers to a region of visual cortex located in the occipital lobe and posterior areas of the parietal lobe and temporal lobe in the human and the macaque. Defined on the basis of multiple criteria it is, by functional connectivity, located between the regions of primary visual cortex (area V1) and intermediate visual cortex. It is composed of area V2, area V3, and area V4 ( Glasser-2016 ).
