isthmic organizer (IST)

The term isthmic organizer (IST) refers to a functionally defined plate of structures located rostrally in the pons (PON). Defined by gene expression, it is a prenatal precursor to nuclei in the pons in vertebrates ( Wurst-2001 ). Thus, it is found in the human, macaque, rat and mouse ( NeuroNames ). Final 26 Apr 2025.
