marginal sulcus

The term marginal sulcus refers to a superficial feature of the mesial aspect of the cerebral hemisphere found in the human and variably in the macaqu, ( Krieg-1975 ), though not ordinarily named there ( Dubach-2008; Paxinos-2009a ). Identified by dissection, it is the caudal-most part of the cingulate sulcus (cgs) where the cgs bends from horizontal to almost vertical and continues to the dorsal margin of the hemisphere In the human it forms the caudal boundary of the postcentral gyrus (POG) with the precuneus (PCU) ( Carpenter-1983 ). In the macaque the caudal-most part of the cgs separates the POG and/or the superior parietal lobule (SPL) from the precuneus ( Martin-2000 Dubach-2008 ). Equivalent structures are not found in the smooth cerebral cortex of the rat or mouse ( NeuroNames ). Updated 22 Aug 2024.

Also known as: pars marginalis sulci cinguli, Ramus marginalis sulci cingulati, marginal branch of cingulate sulcus, marginal ramus of cingulate sulcus, marginal sulcus
