The definition scientific ontology refers to a digital encoding of data from human-readable text as a way of specifying content-specific agreements for the sharing and reuse of knowledge among software entities ( Gruber-1993; Gruber 1995 ). Within that general context, an ontology for quantitative neuroscience includes human recognizable visual images and diagrams ( Bowden-1995 ), which specify relationships between names represented in a standard nomenclature and the operationally defined structural and functional concepts they represent ( Bowden-1997; Bowden-2012; Bowden-2018 ). A scientific ontology is a repository of conceptual knowledge rendered scientific by restriction of the data (knowledge) base to objective, operationally defined concepts.
