area 12 (H) (Brodmann)

The term area 12 (H) (Brodmann) refers to a subdivision of the cytoarchitecturally defined frontal region of the human. Originally it was described as part of prefrontal area 11 Brodmann-09 but not shown in the cortical map of Brodmann-09. In a subsequent publication (Brodmann-10), however, it was labeled as an independent area 12. It occupies the area between the superior rostral sulcus (H) and the inferior rostral sulcus (H). Cytoarchitecturally it is bounded dorsally by the frontopolar area 10 and the dorsal anterior cingulate area 32; caudally, ventrally and rostrally it is bounded by the prefrontal area 11
