corticospinal tract

The term corticospinal tract refers to fibers that originate from pyramidal neurons of the primary motor cortex of the cerebral cortex and terminate in the spinal cord. The fibers pass through parts of the cerebral white matter (including the posterior limb of internal capsule), the cerebral crus, the pyramidal tract, the lateral corticospinal tract and the ventral corticospinal tract on their way to the spinal cord. The pathway is not readily distinguished in myelin stained cross-sections of the cerebral white matter.
