The term frontal region, or Regio frontalis, was used by Brodmann for the frontal lobe excluding its cytoarchitecturally defined precentral region. On the medial surface of the hemisphere its boundary with the cingulate region is an arc formed by the cingulate sulcus above and by the superior rostral sulcus (H) below. It includes the intermediate frontal area 8, the granular frontal area 9, the frontopolar area 10, the prefrontal area 11 (Brodmann), the opercular area 44, the triangular area 45, the orbital area 47 and the middle frontal area 46. Many authors now call approximations of Brodmann's frontal region "prefrontal" (Anthoney-94). |
