insular region

The term insular region, or Regio insularis, refers to a cytoarchitecturally defined portion of the cerebral cortex that occupies all of the insula and immediately adjacent portions of surrounding frontal lobe and temporal lobe. It includes an anterior agranular half and a posterior granular half, the boundary between which is more coincident with extension of the central sulcus than with the central insular sulcus.
