The term limbic lobe (Carpenter) refers to a composite substructure of the telencephalon based on connectivity and function. It consists of the cingulate gyrus, the parahippocampal gyrus, the paraterminal gyrus, the hippocampus and the dentate gyrus. The limbic lobe is defined variously, even by authors who cite Broca as the original source of their definition; see limbic lobe (Crosby). A thorough discussion of the many different definitions of the limbic lobe, including that of Broca himself is presented in Anthoney-94. |
