limbic lobe (Crosby)

The term limbic lobe (Crosby) denotes a composite substructure of the telencephalon based on connectivity and function. It consists of the cingulate gyrus, the parahippocampal gyrus, the hippocampal formation, the subcallosal area, part of the posterior parolfactory gyrus, the olfactory bulb, the olfactory tract, the medial olfactory gyrus and the prepyriform area. The limbic lobe is variously defined, even by authors who cite Broca as the original source of their definition; see limbic lobe (Carpenter). A thorough discussion of the many different definitions of the limbic lobe, including that of Broca himself is presented in Anthoney-94.
