The term medial zone of hypothalamus refers to one of three zones of the hypothalamus when it is subdivided by planes parallel to the midline. The others are the periventricular zone of hypothalamus and the lateral zone of hypothalamus. The medial zone lies between the other two. It includes the paraventricular nucleus of hypothalamus, the supraoptic nucleus, the medial preoptic nucleus, the anterior nucleus of hypothalamus, the retrochiasmatic area, the ventromedial nucleus of hypothalamus, the dorsomedial nucleus of hypothalamus, the supramammillary nucleus, the medial part of medial mammillary nucleus, the lateral part of medial mammillary nucleus and the lateral mammillary nucleus. |
