The term motor cortex refers to a functionally defined portion of the frontal lobe. It includes three subdivisions, the primary motor cortex, the premotor cortex and the supplementary motor cortex. Identified with the cytoarchitecturally defined precentral region, it is located primarily in the precentral gyrus and caudal portions of the superior frontal gyrus and the middle frontal gyrus. |
