The term posterior region of motor thalamus refers to a composite substructure of the ventral nuclear group of the thalamus based on connectivity and function. It includes area X, the caudal part of ventral lateral nucleus, the pars postrema of ventral lateral nucleus, and the oral part of ventral posterolateral nucleus, which receive projections primarily from the cerebellum.
