premotor cortex

The term premotor cortex refers to a functionally defined portion of the frontal lobe. It is one of three divisions of the motor cortex; the other two are the primary motor cortex and the supplementary motor cortex. Identified with a portion of the cytoarchitecturally defined agranular frontal area 6, it is located primarily in the precentral gyrus and caudal portions of the superior frontal gyrus and the middle frontal gyrus.
