The term raphe nuclei, or Nuclei raphae, denotes a composite substructure that includes nuclei in the midline of the reticular formation extending from the caudal medulla oblongata to the midbrain. It includes the raphe nuclei of medulla (nucleus raphe magnus, nucleus raphe obscurus and nucleus raphe pallidus); the pontine raphe nucleus and inferior central nucleus of the pontine reticular formation and the dorsal raphe nucleus and the superior central nucleus of the midbrain reticular formation. |
