The term spinal nerves, or Nervi spinales, denotes the 31 pairs of nerves that exit the spinal cord. They include 8 cervical, 12 thoracic, 5 lumbar, 5 sacral and 1 coccygeal nerve pairs. As substructures of the peripheral nervous system, they are not in the NeuroNames hierarchy. NeuroNames currently defines only the brain and its substructures.
