The term supraoptic region refers to a composite structure in the anterior hypothalamic region that represents an alternate subdivision of the hypothalamus. It includes the anterior nucleus of hypothalamus, the paraventricular nucleus of hypothalamus, the suprachiasmatic nucleus, the supraoptic nucleus and the supraoptic crest.
