thalamic radiations

The term thalamic radiations refers to fiber pathways that connect the nuclear groups of the thalamus with the cerebral cortex. They include the anterior thalamic radiations, the posterior thalamic radiations, the superior thalamic radiations and the inferior thalamic radiations. They are not readily distinguished in myelin-stained histological cross-sections. For a detailed discussion of semantic differences in the use of terms relating to the thalamic peduncles and thalamic radiations see Anthoney-94.
