The subject was a single male rhesus macaque (Macaca mulatta). The left occipital cortex, including Brodmann's areas 17,18 and 19 was surgically removed. The occipital areas of the contralateral hemisphere were studied by the Nauta silver technique for fiber degeneration. The most extensive degeneration was observed in areas corresponding to Brodmann's area 18. None was observed in area 17, a little degeneration was found in area 19 and in the posterior borders of areas 7, 20 and 23 with 19.
