linear nucleus of the medulla

The term linear nucleus of the medulla refers to a group of cells in the medullary reticular formation of the human ( Paxinos-2012 ), the macaque ( Paxinos-2009a ), the rat ( Swanson-1998 ), and the mouse ( Paxinos-2001 ). It is "reminiscent of a bridge of lateral reticular nucleus cells over the rostral end of the [ ambiguous nucleus ]." ( Swanson-2004 ) Functionally it belongs to the postcerebellar and precerebellar nuclei of the behavior control column ( Swanson-2004 ).
