subparaventricular zone

The term subparaventricular zone refers a narrow area between the periventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus and the anterior hypothalamic area ventral to the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus. It is found in the rat ( Swanson-1998 ) and the mouse ( Paxinos-2001 ). It is not shown in brain atlases of the human ( Saper-2012 ) and the macaque ( Paxinos-2009a ). Functionally it is part of the behavioral state system ( Swanson-2004 ).
