median part of the medial mammillary nucleus

The term median part of the medial mammillary nucleus refers to one of two parts of the medial mammillary nucleus in the rat ( Swanson-2004 ) and the mouse ( Hof-2000 ). It is a group of cells located dorsomedially, just ventral to the supramammillary area. The other part is the body of the medial mammillary nucleus. The median part is not defined in the human ( Saper-2004 ) or the macaque ( Paxinos-2009a ). Functionally the medial mammillary nucleus is part of the behavior control column of the brainstem motor system ( Swanson-2004 ).
