The term pyriform lobe denotes a composite substructure of the anterior parahippocampal gyrus (PHGa) in the human ( Carpenter-1983 ). It includes the olfactory tract (oltr), the volumetric structures whose combined surfaces constitute the uncus and, depending on the author, other parts of the PHGa ( Anthoney-1994. Because the concept includes a mixture of overlapping superficial and volumetric structures, it is of minimal use for quantitative neuroanatomical analyses ( Bowden-1991 ). Final 20 Jan 2025.
