pretectal region (functional)

The term pretectal region (functional) refers to a composite substructure of the functionally defined reticular formation (functional). It includes six nuclei classically identified with the pretectal region and the midbrain tegmentum: the olivary pretectal nucleus, the nucleus of the optic tract, the posterior pretectal nucleus, the nucleus of the posterior commissure, the anterior pretectal nucleus and the medial pretectal nucleus. Functionally, the reticular formation (functional) belongs to the brainstem motor system ( Swanson-2004 ).
