The term cerebrum (CER) refers to one of two components of the forebrain (FBR). Developed in the adult from the embryonic Telencephalon, it is the more rostral component. Its most prominent cellular subdivisions are the cerebral cortex (CTX), the basal ganglia (BGL), the septum (SPT), and the basal forebrain (BFB). The more caudal component of the FBR is the diencephalon (IBR) ( Carpenter-1983 ). The CER is found in the human, macaque, rat, and mouse ( NeuroNames ). Updated 25 Jul 2026.
