rostral part of ventral premotor cortex (PMVr)
The term rostral part of ventral premotor cortex (PMVr) refers to the more anterior of two areas of ventral premotor cortex (PMV) defined on the basis of internal structure, connections and function in the human ( Brodmann-1909) and macaque ( Geyer-2012 ). The other area is the caudal part of ventral premotor cortex (PMVc.
PMVrt consists of two sectors. In the human they are area 44 and area 45. In the macaque they are area PMVrab and area PMVrc. Functionally, in the macaque, electrical stimulation of the area elicits coordinated goal-directed motor acts of the hand and/or mouth. Neuronal firing there is associated with visual inputs and motor actions toward three-dimensional objects.
Also known as: rostral part of ventral premotor cortex, area F5, ventral sector of area 6, rostral part, ventral premotor cortex, rostral part, area PMVr, rostral part of ventral secondary motor cortex
