hippocampal fissure (hif)

The term hippocampal fissure (hif) refers to a deep cleft in the limbic lobe of the human ( Carpenter-1983 ), macaque ( Paxinos-2009a ), rat ( Swanson-2004 ) and mouse ( Hof-2000 ). In the primates it separates the dentate gyrus (DNG) from the CA fields (CAF), subiculum (SUB) and anterior parahippocampal gyrus (PHGa). In the rodents it separates the DNG CAF.
