NeuroNames

The definition NeuroNames (NN) refers to a vocabulary of neuroscientific terms. It has three parts: 1) the NeuroNames Standard Nomenclature (NNSN) for structures and functions of the nervous system (NS). The NNSN consists of more than 3000 unique English terms for equivalent structures.in the central nervous systems (CNS) of the Human, macaque, Rat and mouse, i.e., the most widely studied species; 2) more than 17,000 synonyms and homonyms in 8 languages: English, Latin, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Russian and Spanish and 3) dozens of graphic Model of neural circuitry, i.e., pathways, networks and behavioral control systems labeled by NNSN terms. Three basic Model are: the Structural Model - Human, the Functional Model - Human and the Functional Model - Rat. The NNSN is designed to provide students entering neuroscience with a standard set of the most commonly encountered terms for the thousands of concepts they will learn in their studies; to provide neuroscientists for whom English is a second language to quickly learn the exact English terms for concepts they learned in their native language; and to assist English speakers in different subdisciplines of neuroscience quickly to determine whether the structures they have studied in different species or different laboratories by different names are, in fact, the same ( Bowden-2012 ).
