hilus of the dentate gyrus (HDG)

The term hilus of the dentate gyrus refers to one of two parts of the dentate gyrus identified by topology in the human ( Insausti-2012 ) and macaque ( Paxinos-2009a ). It is the stem of the dentate gyrus, whicht attaches it to the CA fields in the functionally defined hippocampal complex. The body of the gyrus is the fascia dentata. The hilus is commonly referred to by the name of its domininant cell group, the CA4 field ( Paxinos-2009a ). Updated 30 May 2024.
