magnocellular reticular nucleus
Acronym:
The term magnocellular reticular nucleus refers to the most ventral portion of the gigantocellular nucleus in the medullary reticular formation. Some authors regard it as composed of two parts: the alpha part of the gigantocellular reticular nucleus and the ventral part of the gigantocellular reticular nucleus. Located at the base of the medulla between the lateral paragigantocellular nucleus and the midline or nucleus raphe magnus, it is found in the human ( Paxinos-2012 ), the macaque ( Paxinos-2009a ), the rat ( Swanson-1998 ), and the mouse ( Hof-2000 ). Functionally it belongs to the reticular formation (functional) of the subcortical motor system ( Swanson-2004 ).
