basal ganglia of Martin
The term basal ganglia of Martin refers to an alternate definition of basal ganglia based on connectivity. It includes the striatum, the nucleus accumbens, the globus pallidus, the ventral pallidum, the subthalamic nucleus, the substantia nigra, and the ventral tegmental area ( Martin-1989 ). A discussion of semantic differences in the use of the term 'basal ganglia' is presented in Anthoney-1994.
