parasubiculum
Acronym: PaS
The term parasubiculum refers to a transitional zone between the presubiculum and the entorhinal area located rostrally in the parahippocampal gyrus of the human ( Zilles-1990 ) and the macaque ( Paxinos-2009a ). In the rat ( Swanson-1998 ) and the mouse ( Paxinos-2001 ) it is located between the same two areas but on the ventromedial aspect of the cerebral cortex. Defined on the basis of cytoarchitecture, it is more similar to the presubiculum than to the entorhinal area ( Zilles-1990 ).
