frontoparietal operculum
Acronym:
The term frontoparietal operculum refers to the parts of the ventrolateral frontal lobe and parietal lobe that overlie the dorsal surface of the insula in primates, including the human ( Roberts-1970 ) and the macaque ( Mesulam-1984 ). Defined on the basis of topology it constitutes the superior bank of the lateral fissure and is separated from the insula by the superior limiting sulcus. It is composed of the frontal operculum rostrally and the parietal operculum caudally. It is one of three parts of the opercular cortex. The others are the temporal operculum and, in the human only, the basal operculum. None of the opercula are present in the smooth cerebral cortex of rodents.
