The term area 2 of Brodmann (human) refers to a subdivision of the cytoarchitecturally defined postcentral region of cerebral cortex. In the human it is located primarily in the caudal portion of the postcentral gyrus and the rostral lip of the postcentral sulcus with a caudal extension along the intraparietal sulcus. Cytoarchitecturally it is bounded rostrally by the area 1 of Brodmann (human) and caudally by the area 5 of Brodmann (human), the area 7 of Brodmann (human) and the area 40 of Brodmann (human) ( Brodmann-1909 ).
