Continuous with the central gray of the medulla, it is found in the human ( Carpenter-1983 ), the macaque ( NeuroNames ), the rat ( Swanson-2004 ), and the mouse ( NeuroNames ). Functionally it is part of the subcortical motor system ( Swanson-2004 ).
